When you consume more calories than you burn on a regular basis, weight gain is inevitable. You may over-consume every now and then and not gain any weight. However, when you are constantly choking down more calories than you use, you are going to gain weight.
The same is true when you consume a lot of unhealthy carbohydrates.
Simple carbohydrates, like those found in processed foods, are digested quickly. When you eat too many of these types of carbohydrates, they are stored as fat for energy use later. The problem is that constantly eating too many carbohydrates means that you are storing more fat than you are burning for energy.
When you enjoy a plant-based diet, something marvelous happens in regards to weight loss.
You don’t over-consume calories. You don’t over-consume unhealthy carbohydrates. Plant-based foods are extremely low in calories compared to the amount of nutrition and fiber they deliver. Fiber-rich, plant-based foods take a while to digest. This is why a plant-based, whole foods diet leaves you feeling full longer after every meal.
Plant-based foods are great for weight loss for another fiber-related reason. When fiber passes through your body as waste, it reaches out and “grabs” toxins, poisons and other waste products. It clings to these unhealthy chemicals, helping detox and cleanse your body and removing unwanted weight.
Following a whole foods, plant-based approach to nutrition helps lead to weight loss in another way as well. You may normally function on a 2,000 cal per day diet. You will have to eat a lot of plant-based foods to achieve that calorie count. This makes it difficult to consume too many calories on a daily basis, and this fact leads to weight loss and a healthy body weight regulation.
The fact that you have no oil in your diet is yet another weight loss contributor. Oils, even healthy types such as coconut oil, deliver anywhere from 13 to 40 times the number of calories as the same sized servings of vegetables and fruits. This is why it is so important to remove oil from your diet when weight loss is the goal of your plant-based whole foods eating plan.
As long as you stick to this healthy, as well as nutritious and delicious diet, you will lose weight. Once you reach a healthy body weight, continuing on this healthy nutrition path makes it easy to stay at your target weight. As a wonderful side benefit, your overall health and wellness also improve.
